Ministers of Public Service will meet on Monday, 22nd February 2010 at the ECOWAS Commission in Abuja to launch the All Africa Public Service Innovation Awards (AAPSIA).
The AAPSIA is one of the thematic areas within a broad African Union (AU) programme of the 6th Conference of African Ministers of public-Civil service chaired by Kenya. The ministers, led by the South African Minister of Public Service and Administration, Mr. Richard Baloyi, will launch the Awards, which seek to promote and encourage innovative practices in the public sector for improved service delivery as well as promote regional and cross-sector collaboration towards promoting good governance on the continent.
The awards are also to create a platform for information sharing, lesson learning, partnerships and possible replication of successful initiatives across Africa. The categories for the 2010 awards are Innovative Service Delivery Improvements, Innovative Partnerships between Government, Private Sector and civil Service Organizations and Innovations in the Systems and Processes of Governance. The Tanzanian Minister of State and Public Service Management, Mr. Hawa Ghasi, will make a presentation on "All Public Service Day Celebrations", in line with the theme for the 2010 AAPSIA, which is "Promoting Good Governance through Innovative Service Delivery".
