press release

Free Town - Sierra Leone — A three-member ECOWAS technical committee has returned from Freetown where it finalized preparations for the hand-over of land donated by the Government of Sierra Leone to ECOWAS for the establishment of the regional logistics depot.

The Government of Sierra Leone offered the land in December 2009 to host the depot, one of the two approved for the region by the Heads of State and Government of the Community. Mali hosts the second depot, which will cater for humanitarian needs for peace support operations (PSOs).

Although no date has been fixed for the hand-over by President Ernest Bai Koroma of Sierra Leone to the President of the Commission, Ambassador James Victor Gbeho, the technical team agreed with the officials of the Government of Sierra Leone during the week-long visit on the budget and draft programme for the event.

The team was led by the ECOWAS Director of Peacekeeping and Regional Security, retired General Charles Okae and included the Acting Facility Manager and a representative of the ECOWAS Directorate of Administration.
