Regional Civil Society Organizations Meet in Banjul On Youth Empowerment

Abuja - Nigeria — A five-day capacity building workshop to discuss the implementation of the ECOWAS Youth Policy and share experiences in Youth Development and empowerment will be held from Monday, 20th September 2010 in Banjul, The Gambia.

The workshop is designed to build the capacities of participants in the implementation of ECOWAS Policy initiatives and provide a conducive environment for sharing best practices among Member States and development partners on the issues of Youth development and empowerment.

They will also be trained on resource mobilisation and introduced to sources of funding and the strategies for pursuing youth activities and programmes including networking so that they can strengthen their ideas on the sustainable implementation of youth- related activities in the region It is also expected that the workshop will equip participants with a sound knowledge of the ECOWAS Youth Policy and the strategies for effectively initiating and implementing proactive Youth Programmes.

Moreover, it will strengthen their capacity to integrate ECOWAS Youth Policy concerns into national policies and programmes and sensitize Member States and Stake holders in the Youth Sector on the ECOWAS Youth Policy and Strategic Plan of Action, Youth Programme development, empowerment and implementation through sharing of best practices information on contemporary Youth Challenges in the region.

Participants at the capacity building workshop will be drawn from Member States, National Youth Council, Youth Ministry, Civil Society, Development and Institutional Partners - UNESCO, UNDP, ADB, ECA, AU, UNICEF, ILO and the EU while respecting a gender balance.
