Regional Meeting of the Ecowas National Units And the National Committees of the Ecowas Community Development Programme (NC-CDP)

Abuja - Nigeria — In the context of the ECOWAS Community Development Programme (CDP) formulation process, the ECOWAS Commission is organizing from Monday 11th to Thursday 12th October 2010 in the ECOWAS Commission in Abuja (Main Hall), a meeting involving the ECOWAS National Units from the 15 Member States and the National Committees of the ECOWAS Community Development Programme (NC-CDP).

Participants will among others discuss the progress of the CDP formulation process, the mode of funding of the CDP National Committees activities, the funding procedures of the European Union as well as the best way to involve ECOWAS National Units in the CDP formulation process. They will also review the formal establishment of the CDP National Committees, the CDP National Committees' missions and action plans and the validation of CDP national studies.

As a reminder, the ECOWAS Heads of State and Government adopted during the 32nd summit, in June 2007,a new approach to the regional integration agenda by approving a new vision called "Vision 2020". The Vision aims at changing, by 2020, the current "ECOWAS of States" into an "ECOWAS of People".

This new vision advocates a more participatory, democratic and efficient approach to regional integration, which will effectively involve all key social and occupational sectors and actors at both State and non-State levels

of all member States. In order to implement this Vision, the Heads of State and Government enjoined the ECOWAS Commission to formulate an integrated regional development strategies and programs referred to as the "Community Development Programme" (CDP).
