AfDB President Kaberuka in Nigeria - Preparatory Team Meets the Media

As part of President Kaberuka' visit in Nigeria, from 23 to 24 November 2010, January Litse, Director, African Development Bank (AfDB), met on 22 November 2010, in Abuja, with the Nigerian press. The briefing aimed at reviewing Bank Group portfolio in the country. To date, 33 projects and programs are being implemented by the AfDB in Nigeria.

Since beginning its operations in this country in 1971, AfDB Group operations amounted to USD 4.5 billion. AfDB operations in Nigeria are focused mainly on infrastructure, with particular emphasis on the energy sector. Major projects to support the financial, agricultural and education are also underway. Mr. Litse praised Nigeria's leadership in its relationships with the Bank and the important contribution made by Nigeria to African countries' development, with the establishment in 1976 of the Nigeria Trust Fund; and in 2004 of the Nigeria Technical Cooperation Fund.
