Ecowas Form the Technical Staff of Non-State Actors

Ouagadougou - Burkina Faso — Strengthen the capacity of Non-State Actors (NSAs) to enable them to better respond to calls for proposals of the European Development Fund, broaden the support and participation of NSAs in the process of regional integration in West Africa, such are the main objectives of the workshop training organized by ECOWAS, from the 31st of January to the 4th of February 2011, in Ouagadougou.

A total of sixty participants, divided into two groups, took part in the training supervised by Jeanne Pierre, Technical Assistant of the European Union with the Commission of ECOWAS and Mr. Alain Ole Cam Consultant. During their workshop, the participants discussed the eligibility criteria, the timetable of the call for proposals, the conceptual proposals, the presentation of files aimed to dismantle subsidies, the logical framework, the preparation of the brief note, the elaboration of the budget and finally submitting the proposal. The opening ceremony of the workshop was jointly chaired by Mr. Pierre Jeanne, EU Technical Assistant at ECOWAS and Mr. Enobong Umoessien, representative of ECOWAS Commission.

Mr. Pierre Jeanne recalled in his opening statement the different calls for proposals launched by ECOWAS. He said that 17 grants were awarded to NSAs in the region for actions to promote integration and strengthening regional networks of NSAs in West Africa for a total of 1.1 million Euros (about 700 million CFA francs). From his side, Mr. Enobong, representing the ECOWAS Commission invited participants to closely monitor this important training to enable them to enhance their capabilities in the process of regional integration. Prior to wish full success to the work, M Enobong recalled the important role of NSAs in the integration process, including the extension of integration issues in the consciousness of people in the region. This training was made possible thanks to the support of the European Union through the Regional Indicative Programme (RIP).

The IRP aims to contribute to poverty reduction through better growth and regional economic integration of countries in West Africa. It has twenty two projects and focuses on several areas including, among others, regional integration and trade support, transport facilitation, good governance, conflict prevention, human development, food security and promotion of cooperation.
