Ecowas Commission to Establish National Coordinating Council in Guinea Bissau

Bissau - Guinea Bissau — The Ecowas Commission will hold consultative sessions with officials of Guinea Bissau from Monday, 7th March 2011 to select members of the National Coordinating Council for the ECOWAS Volunteers Programme (EVP) for the country.

The week-long process which will take place in the country's capital, Bissau, will include an induction workshop which, among others, will instruct members on the modalities of the programme, the mechanism for identifying host organizations and volunteers' profile that would meet the priority needs of the country.

The pilot phase of the EVP was officially launched in Liberia in March, 2010 to herald the programme which is aimed at recruiting volunteers across the 15 Member States for deployment for assignments in Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea and Guinea Bissau. The EVP is being supported by the African Development Bank (ADB), the United Nations Volunteer programme (UNV) and the European Union (EU).
