New Date for Summit of Ecowas Heads of State Announced

Abuja - Nigeria — The 39th ordinary summit of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government will now take place on Wednesday, 23rd and Thursday, 24th March 2011 in Abuja.

The rescheduled summit will, among other issues, consider the report of the Council of Ministers and the 2010 Annual Report of the President of the ECOWAS Commission. The Heads of State will also consider the report of the 28th session of the Mediation and Security Council which met on the crisis on Cote d'Ivoire.

In addition, they will consider such memoranda as relating to the review of their decisions suspending Guinea and Niger as well as the request of Chad seeking an observer status with ECOWAS.

Moreover, the Heads of State will consider the report Ad Hoc Ministerial Committee on the allocation of statutory positions in ECOWAS institutions and appoint the next Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State for the next year.
