The Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA) will organize a workshop to review Technical and Vocational Skills Development (TVSD) initiatives and experiences in Africa, from March 24-26, in Ouagadougou. The workshop will guide preparations of studies on TVSD for the 2011 ADEA Triennial, which will take place from 27 November to 2 December 2011 in the Burkinabe capital.

The methodological workshop will be attended by representatives of 18 African countries: Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Côte d'Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Mali, Mauritius, Morocco, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda and South Africa. Participants from Education Research Network for Western and Central Africa (ERNWACA), Forum for African Women Educationists (FAWE), German international cooperation agency (GIZ), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Network for Policy Research, Review and Advice on Education and Training (NORRAG), and UNESCO, have been invited to attend the meeting.

As part of its endeavor to improve African journalists skills in reporting education, a seminar for the press was organized on Monday, March 21, on TVSD and EMIS systems in Africa, attended by journalists in Ouagadougou and Cotonou, at the centers for distance education in both cities.

The TVSD is a priority issue for ADEA. In 2010, an inter-country quality node (ICQN) was established on this topic, led by Côte d'Ivoire. TVSD is also one of the three sub-themes of the 2011 Triennial, whose overall theme is "Promoting critical knowledge, skills and qualifications for sustainable development in Africa: how to design and implement effective education and training systems?"
