press release

Abuja — The ECOWAS Commission, in collaboration with InWent, a capacity building institution in Germany, is organizing a training workshop in Accra, Ghana, to strengthen the capacities of the Commission and Community Member States to effectively monitor and report progress towards attainment of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

The MDGs are eight international development targets which all 192 United Nations Member States and some 23 international organizations agreed in 2000 to achieve by 2015. These include eradicating extreme poverty, reducing child mortality rates, fighting disease epidemics such as HIV/AIDS, and developing a global partnership for development. The Accra workshop from 18th to 22nd July 2011 will be attended by participants from ECOWAS Member States and staff of the Commission.
