During his visit to the Central African Republic for the inauguration of the AfDB's national field office in Bangui, President Kaberuka held two key meetings with Resident Representatives of some countries of the Central Region (Cameroon, Central African Republic, Gabon, DRC, Chad).

These meetings focused on the implementation of the decentralization policy and the accompanied measures to enhance its effectiveness in the Central Africa region. One of the important issues raised involved the current level of delegation of responsibility to field offices.

Mr Kaberuka called for:

i) a strengthening of the role of field offices in supporting regional integration processes in the Central Region, which is experiencing a significant delay compared to other parts of the continent.

ii) A strengthening of the collaboration between the offices of the region and also between the offices and the regional and sectoral departments.

iii) A greater focus on a more results oriented culture to better evaluate the contribution of field offices to the quality of services of the AfDB to the Regional Member Countries.
