Senegal: President Sall Coalition Wins Majority in Parliamentary Elections

A coalition led by Senegalese President Macky Sall has won a huge majority in the legislative elections.

Observers have noted that participation in the election was weak, with 36,67 percent of five million registered voters going to the polls.

Sall's Benno Bokk Yaakaar coalition won 119 of  the 150 seats in the assembly. The rest of the seats are shared between Abdoulaye Wade's Parti démocratique Sénégalais (PDS) which has now become the new opposition (12), Bokk Gis Gis - a coalition of PDS dissidents (4) and other smaller parties sharing the rest of the 15 seats.

The official provisional results also confirm four religious candidates from the Bes du Niak list led by Serine Mansour Sy Djamil. Imam Mbaye Niang's MRDS list procured two seats, while the MPS list was headed by Khadim Thioune, son of Cheikh Béthio, obtained one seat.e seat.
