The African Development Bank Group today joined the international community in commemorating the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.

The occasion presents an opportunity to take stock of the progress made in achieving the objectives of the Millennium Development Goals by 2015. According to the United Nations, more than one billion people are still living in poverty, deprived of their rights to food, education and health.

The Africa Development Bank Group, whose overall objective is to support the economic and social development of its Regional Member Countries (RMCs), promotes investments in public and private sector projects and programs to reduce poverty and improve living conditions across the continent.

The fight against poverty is at the heart of efforts by the Bank to help the continent to ensure sustainable and inclusive economic growth.
