An African Development Bank (AFDB) delegation led by Sibry Tapsoba, Director of the Transition Support Department, will visit the Central African Republic from July 1-4 to resume the Bank's support to the country, ravaged by internal conflict for months.

Resumption of this cooperation began at the last AfDB annual meetings in Kigali, with the organisation of a round table dedicated to development of an interim strategy to support the current transition process.

This mission follows the AfDB board's approval of a donation of approximately 11 billion CFA francs to provide speedy assistance to the most disadvantaged groups, contribute to the stabilisation of the country during the period of transition, and support economic recovery.

Meetings are planned with top-level transition authorities with the aim of discussing priority areas for cooperation and support prospects, particularly in the field of building Central African State's capacity for resilience and fragility reduction.

The delegation will also meet with the country's other development partners, including the French Agency for Development (AFD), the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the African-led International Support Mission to the Central African Republic (MISCA) and force Sangaris, to strengthen aid coordination and hold an in-depth discussion of the security situation.

These meetings fall into the Strategy to Support Countries in Situations of Fragility established by the AfDB, determined to be placed at the heart of the continent's transformation initiatives and to facilitate the emergence of a context for more resilient and more inclusive growth in Africa.
