Nigerian media mogul John Olatchy Momoh (OON), Chairman and CEO of the multi-award winning Channels Television in Nigeria, has joined the Board of Directors of the Constituency for Africa (CFA). Channels TV is the largest private-sector media outlet on the African continent. Momoh and his wife, Mrs. Olusola T. Momoh, were CFA's special guests during the 2014 Ronald H. Brown African Affairs Series, which concluded in Washington, D.C. on October 3rd.
The Constituency for Africa was founded in 1990, as a project of the relief and development agency Africare. Its mission is to educate the public about Africa and African development issues; to build public and private support for Africa and the Diaspora; and to help shape a more positive United States policy on Africa. CFA became an independent organization in April 1994.
Since its inception, CFA's stellar advocacy efforts over many years include shaping US trade policy towards Africa and the successful passage of the African Growth and Opportunity Act; in 2013 CFA partnered with USAID and Western Union to implement the African Diaspora Marketplace competition; CFA pioneered efforts that led towards President George W. Bush's landmark legislation to address the HIV/AIDS pandemic, the Presidents Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief; and provided the ideas for President Obama's August U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit as well as the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI).
CFA is also credited with establishing the groundbreaking Ronald H. Brown African Affairs Series, a marquee series of strategic meetings, forums and other stakeholder events that coincides and overlaps with the annual Congressional Black Caucus Legislative Week and the United Nations General Assembly. The Ron Brown Series has become a critical component towards galvanizing thinking on a range of US – Africa policy options.
CFA's President Melvin Foote, is pleased with John Momoh's decision to accept a place on the CFA Board of Directors. Said Foote, "CFA is nearing its 25th year of service to Africa and the African Diaspora and it is now time for us to retool our Board of Directors to better reflect the realities of US – Africa partnerships. The CFA Board going forward will reflect dynamic people both in the United States and in Africa. John Momoh is a pioneer and one of the most respected entrepreneurs in the media industry in Africa. Highly global in his thinking, he brings focused wisdom of the immense potential of the Diaspora to CFA. We at CFA are very fortunate to have him on our Board!"
