Burkina Faso: I Won't Resign - President Compaore

Communique issued by Army Chief of Staff in Burkina Faso, General Honore Traore
31 October 2014

Cape Town — Burkina Faso's President Blaise Compaore refused to resign in the face of violent protests against his 30-year rule, saying instead he will lead a transitional government after parliament was dissolved, Al Jazeera America has reported.

Protesters stormed the parliament building and set part of it alight to stop the parliamentary vote that would have allowed Compaore to seek another term in office.

The controversial law has been withdrawn, but protesters are still demanding that the president resign immediately.

A transitional government was announced on Thursday by the head of the army, General Honore Traore.
