Abuja — Following is a statement issued by Dr. Saidu Balarabe Samaila, a former Minister of Sports and 2014 candidate for the nomination of the People Democratic Party (PDP) in 2014.

I wish to seize this opportunity to thank my numerous supporters in and outside our Party the PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY (PDP) from within and outside Kebbi State for their overwhelming show of support, solidarity, love and brotherhood since I joined the Party at infancy.

They supported and worked for me to become the governorship candidate of the party in the 2003 governorship election; they supported and showed care in 2007 when I aspired for the same office; they stood by me when I similarly aspired for both the Offices of the Deputy National chairman and national organising secretary of the PDP; and remained with me when I bid to vie for the office of the executive Governor of Kebbi State 2014. After Allah, you are my source of inspiration and strength in my political struggles and aspiration. I cannot thank you enough.

I make this solemn pledge to you that I shall continue to employ all my God given talents and ability for the growth and development of Kebbi State, Nigeria and the African continent. I will not desert you. I will continue to be with you and together we shall confront and overcome our personal and collective challenges to the glory of kebbi state and Nigeria our fatherland.

I want to make it categorically clear that I remain a law abiding and committed member of the People Democratic Party (PDP); and will work assiduously for the success of the party in the general elections of 2015. I want to use this opportunity to put to rest all speculations in the media that I had deserted you and the PDP. I assure you that no amount of pressure and inducement will lure me away from being with you in the PDP family.

I, therefore, call on all of you, my supporters, to use your vote to ensure the victory and success of the PDP at all levels in the forthcoming elections.

Long live PDP, Kebbi State.

Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria
