The Women in Business Initiative was launched on March 21, 2016 during the Africa CEO Forum in Abidjan.

Under the patronage of Dominique Ouattara, First Lady of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire, this first meeting of women CEOs, private sector leaders and prominent business women in Africa, was attended by over 100 business women including African Development Bank's Special Envoy on Gender, Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi.

The objective of the initiative is to promote African women in business and provide them with a platform to connect and exchange ideas about issues relevant to women in business. The initiative is set to be replicated in successive editions of Africa CEO Forum.
