Adea Launches Regional Consultative Meetings in Preparation for the 2017 Triennale

The 2017 Triennale of the Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA) - the flagship event of the Association and one of the most important global events on education and training in Africa - will be held in Marrakech in the Kingdom of Morocco from March 15 to 17, 2017. The theme of the Triennale is "Revitalizing education towards the 2030 Global Agenda and Africa's Agenda 2063".

As part of the preparations for the Triennale, a series of regional consultations have been planned to be held in the five regions of the African continent as follows:

Gabon, May 30-31, 2016 (Central African Region) on building peace and global citizenship through education.

Senegal, June 13-14, 2016 (West African Region) on promoting science, mathematics, and information and communication technology.

Morocco, July 13-14, 2016 (North African Region) on promoting science, mathematics, and information and communication technology.

Angola, July 27-28, 2016 (South African Region) on implementing education for African cultural renaissance and pan-African ideals.

Kenya, August 22-24, 2016 (East African Region) on implementing education and lifelong learning for sustainable development.

The consultative meeting for the Central African Region, the first of the series, was held on May 30-31, 2016 under the leadership of the Minister of Culture of Gabon, Paulette Mengue m'Owono; and Gabon's Deputy Minister of Education and Vocational Training, Janvier Nguema Mboumba, with the participation of key stakeholders namely ministers, members of the Parliament, civil society organizations, federation of the associations of parents, intergovernmental institutions, and development cooperation agencies from the central African region (e.g. UNICEF, UNESCO) as well as the African Development Bank's office in Gabon.

On behalf of the Prime Minister of Gabon, the Head of Government, the Minister of Culture, Arts and Civic Education launched and officially opened the Consultative meeting for the Central African Region on building peace and global citizenship through education (Sub-theme no.4 of the ADEA 2017 Triennale), in preparation for the upcoming Triennale.

ADEA's delegation - Mamadou Ndoye, Former Minister of Education, Senegal, and coordinator of the Triennale 2017; Mary Kangethe, coordinator of the ICQN on Education for Peace; and Ramata Almamy Mbaye, ADEA's Senior External Relations and Strategic Partnerships Officer - underscored the important role as well as the prominent place Gabon plays in the ADEA network, especially thanks to the Deputy Minister Janvier Nguema Mboumba, whose political and professional leadership is recognized at continental and international level.

Before closing her intervention, Ramata Almamy Mbaye, reiterated ADEA's hope that President Ali Bongo Ondimba would join the Heads of State who will sit in the panel of the leaders at the ADEA 2017 Triennale.
