Africa investor (Ai), a leading international investment and communications group, today announced that, together with the UN Office of the Special Advisor on Africa (OSAA) and the Global Partnerships Forum (GPF), Ai will be hosting its annual high-level African Heads of State Investment Dialogue at the 9 th Ai CEO Institutional Investment Summit at the NASDAQ Exchange in New York on the 19 th of September.

This year’s African Presidential Investment Summit, which builds on the Ai Heads of State Investment Advisory Council platform, an initiative that was launched on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly with OSAA and the African Union in 2011, will focus on African energy investment opportunities for the global and domestic institutional investment community.

It will discuss how African domestic pension and sovereign wealth fund capital, as well as that of other institutional investors, can boost African power and infrastructure investment and the role that African institutional investors can play to catalyse infrastructure co-investment partnerships with their international and US-based peers.

Last year’s Presidential Summit’s participating Heads of State included H.E. Yoweri Museveni, President of Uganda; H.E. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, President of Liberia; H.E. Hailemariam Desalegn, Prime Minister of Ethiopia; H.E. Peter Mutharika, President of Malawi, and H.E. James Wani Igga, Vice President of South Sudan, as well as numerous Ministers of Trade and Investment.

Commenting on the Summit, Hubert Danso, CEO and Vice Chairman of Africa investor, said, “Over half of Africa’s population lacks access to modern energy – almost 600 million people in sub-Saharan Africa. Africa’s energy sector is an ideal fit and represents a huge area of interest for global and domestic institutional long term investors. If the stated goals of the SDG framework and those of the African Union’s Agenda 2063 are to be realised, there will need to be a concerted effort to increase both institutional investment and the engagement of political champions to fast track the implementation of investments into the continent’s energy sector.”

He continued, “This year’s Presidential Investment Summit Dialogue will continue its important work by bringing together influential domestic and global institutional investors, especially pension and sovereign wealth fund leaders to engage African Heads of State on investment opportunities in Africa’s energy sector.”

The 9 th Ai CEO Institutional Investment Summit is an investment leaders’ platform hosted by Ai, to provide the international investment community with a convenient and efficient means to engage leaders of influential African institutions in a lasting and meaningful manner. Ai will also be presenting its prestigious Ai Capital Markets Index Series Awards as part of the event, which recognise the institutions and personalities improving Africa’s institutional investment climate.

The Ai CEO Institutional Investment Summit will be hosted at the NASDAQ Exchange in New York on the 19 th of September.
