Africa: Saved by Their Celebrity Status?

16 August 2016

Cape Town — You may have heard of celebrities who broke the law and walked away with a mere slap on the wrist - adding to the belief that celebrities are treated differently.

Here are some who got away ...

Still fresh on people's mind is the Congolese rhumba maestro Koffi Olomide.

What did he do?

The popular musician was caught on tape as he kicked a member of his band - in the presence of police officers. Shockingly, the controversial singer Koffi was released after serving five days in jail instead of the 18-month sentence he had been handed.

We can't forget to mention popular Ivorian artist, DJ Arafat who was seen slamming a fan to the ground, and then stomping on his face before security intervened. Why? Because the fan jumped on stage to hug him. Shame!

Zimbabwean Dancehall chanter Lady Squanda was also caught on video - slapping the controversial comedian Skimbo with help of male friends. She then went on to demand him that he kiss and lick her foot.

And unsurprisingly, South African rapper AKA was accused of assaulting a fan at the Durban July. The Levels rapper quickly became a talking point, after he apparently kicked a fan who jumped onto stage during his performance, apparently to show some love to the Super Mega.
