The African Development Bank Group Appoints Dr. Josephine Waithira Ngure As Country Manager, Southern Africa Regional Development and Business Delivery Office

The African Development Bank is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Josephine Waithira Ngure as the Country Manager for the Southern Africa Regional Development and Business Delivery Office with effect from 1 December 2016.

The Southern Africa Regional Development and Business Delivery Office is part of the new business approach of the Bank to accelerate its business and development impacts across Africa. As Country Manager, a new senior executive position in the Bank, Dr. Ngure will be responsible for management oversight over country resident representatives and portfolio operations in key countries and serve as the deputy to the Director General in the overall management of the regional office operations.

She has worked in the African Development Bank as Senior Financial Analyst (1997-2003), Principal Financial Analyst in the Public Utilities Department (2003-2006) and Principal Financial Analyst (2007) and Principal Investment Officer for Financial Institutions. She brings extensive experience in infrastructure development, transport, telecoms, water and sanitation, finance and energy sectors. She worked as a Lecturer in Finance at the Trinity College, Oxford University in 1997. Prior to this she worked as a Senior Auditor for PriceWaterCoopers from 1991-1994, where she qualified as a Certified Public Accountant.

As the Resident Representative and Country Manager for Ethiopia, Dr. Ngure manages a complex portfolio of US $1.7 billion, comprising of national and regional operations. She is credited for being a result-oriented leader, with Ethiopia's country office portfolio consistently ranked as one of the top three best performing portfolios in the Bank.

In Ethiopia, Dr. Ngure leads the Bank's engagement with other Development Partners on Policy Dialogue and Donor Coordination. She is also responsible for leading the Bank's collaboration with the Africa Union Commission and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.

Dr. Ngure holds a PhD in Management Studies (Corporate Finance), a Master of Philosophy in Management Studies (Finance and Marketing) both from Oxford University, United Kingdom and a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and Finance from Nairobi University.

The President of the African Development Bank, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, said of the appointment: "Dr. Ngure has done an impressive job as Resident Representative and Country Manager in Ethiopia. Her leadership is well acknowledged among development partners. Her wealth of experience in finance, operations and infrastructure development puts her in very good stead to help strengthen and expand the Bank's public and private sector engagement in the Southern Africa region".
