Following the impasse on the objections raised by Morocco and other member States on the participation of Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), and the legal arguments presented by the African Union (AU) and the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), the Bureau of the 10th Joint Annual Meetings of the African Union Specialized Technical Committee on Finance, Monetary Affairs, Economic Planning and Integration and the Economic Commission for Africa Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development today, decided to adjourn the meeting to a date to be determined and communicated to member States.

The Chair of the incoming Bureau, Mr. Pierre Ndiaye, noted that the postponement follows two days of exhaustive consultations by the host (the Government of Senegal) and the Bureau on behalf of the AU and the United Nations. He informed the member States that the parties, having taken into account the different positions presented, were unable to find a legal and diplomatic solution that would allow the meeting to proceed as a joint meeting. The Chair apologized to all present for the inconveniences caused and committed to undertaking the necessary consultations on a way forward on this issue.

All the side events and other meetings, including the launch of the Economic Report on Africa and the Regional Coordination Mechanism would continue as planned.
