African Development Bank's Independent Review Mechanism Screens Three Projects

On May 9, 2018, the Boards of Directors approved the Semi-Urban Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation, the Ketta-Djoum Road Development Project, and the Kumba-Mamfe Road Development Project for a Bank-triggered compliance review, or spot check advisory review of project compliance.

This kind of review is part of the advisory functions provided by the Independent Review Mechanism for institutional learning. It is designed to assist management to improve how safeguards issues on Bank financed projects are handled during preparation and implementation.

During the exercise, the Independent Review Mechanism assesses whether or not the 3 projects are in compliance with relevant policies and procedures and then submits its findings and recommendations for bringing the project into compliance to the Boards of Directors.

This year's review differs from earlier reviews. The three projects were selected on the basis of recommendations from the Bank's Auditor General's Department. After auditing the Bank-financed Cameroon projects, the Auditor General determined that they could be in violation of applicable Bank policies.
