The African Development Bank Appoints Mr. Mohamed Cherif, Country Manager, Senegal

The African Development Bank Group is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Mohamed Cherif, as Country Manager, Senegal Country Office, effective 1st January 2021.

Mohamed, the Country Manager designated for Senegal, a Mauritanian National, joined the African Development Bank in 2005, and is currently the Country Manager, Madagascar Country Office.

Mohamed brings into this new role extensive Bank operations knowledge and work experience in both, AfDB and ADF countries, in the north, west, and southern Africa regions. He has a proven track record in implementing country programmes, leading country dialogue, identifying new business opportunities, mobilizing co-financing, and managing and monitoring large and complex country portfolios.

Since joining the Bank, he has served as Country Manager, Madagascar Country Office (2017-2020), Chief Country Programme Officer, Regional Department North, Tunis, Tunisia (2016 - 2017), and Chief Regional Programme Officer, Southern African Region Resources Center, Pretoria, South Africa (2013-2016). He was also the Principal Country Programme Officer and Officer in Charge (OIC) of the Burkina Faso Country Office (2009-2011), and Principal Resources & Program Coordinator, Independent Evaluation Department (2008-2009).

Prior to his career at the Bank, Mohamed worked as an Economist and Business Development Expert with IDEA international, Quebec, Canada, and as a Senior Strategic Planner, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, and as a Project Management and Agricultural Cooperative Advisor Guinea (Conakry) with the Centre Canandien d'Etudes et de Coopération International (NGO), financed by the Canadian Development International Agency (CIDA).

Cherif holds three advanced academic degrees: in Agriculture Engineering (Eng.), from Ecole Nationale d'Agriculture, Mekenes Morocco, an M.Sc in Rural Economics, University of Laval, Quebec, Canada, and a Master's in Business Administration (MBA), University of Ottawa, Canada.
