As Liberia Poised To Boost Of First Pharmaceuticals Company Soon; LMHRA's Boss Wants President Weah Expedite The Reclassification Of All Pharmacists Nationwide
MONROVIA-The Managing Director of the Liberia Medicines and Health Product Regulatory Authority Keturah Smith Chineh has disclosed plans by the LMHRA in few Months from now for Liberia to boost of the first pharmaceutical Company in the Country.
The planned move, she said, will give Liberia the opportunity to make her own medicines and other health products unlike before.
Additionally, she pointed out that the initiative will also help bring affordability into the sector including the quality that Liberians deserves.
Madam Chineh making the disclosure Friday May 13, 2022 at the official opening and dedication of the newly constructed Temporary Quality control Laboratory of the LMHRA, she hailed President George Weah and the Chief Executive Officer of Global Pharmaceuticals for such a milestone.
However, she called on President Weah to see the need to expedite the reclassification of all pharmacists nationwide.
According to her such move by the Liberian leader will bring more energy to the health sector and will as well yield the desire results, the population deserves.
She told the gathering that as a young leader fully inspired by her boss, President George Weah, she thought to leave a legacy in the sector that will be remembered going forward.
The legacy she disclosed is the construction of the ultra-modern quality control Laboratory.
Currently, the foundation of project in Kings Farm, Careysburg , Montserrado County has been fully completed with the support of President Weah including revenue generated by the regulatory body.
Upon completion in about two years , even though President Weah encourages them for a twelve month period, the LMHRA boss stressed that the project will consist of four units namely: The Physio Chemical Unit, the Micro Biology Unit which will among other things, ensure professional tests for vaccines , medical devices like syringes and cosmetics and many more.
According to Chineh , her professional and hardworking staffs worked very hard to ensure that the blueprint of the project meets international requirements.
Commenting on some of their activities over the period, she informed the gathering that they were able to promulgate the first eight major regulations with the support from USAID" Clinical trial regulation meant to guard and ensure the mandate of the authority is fully carried out, was among the key regulations, she added.

"As part of our decentralization plan, we were able to establish two regional offices namely: Bong, Lofa and Nimba and Grand Cape Mount, Bomi and Gbarpolu respectively". She said.
In a drive to help empower them to ensure that they execute their tacks effectively including navigating through difficult terrains, the Bo Water side region she indicated will next week have a brand new vehicle.
Unlike before the young LMHRA head said they can boost of about eight vehicles and six Motorbikes to help enhance their operations even though more still needs to be done for that key health regulatory entity of government.
She at the same time commended her able staff for vigorously working to ensuring the mandate of the Authority is fully established and carried out to the core.
It can be recalled that the LMHRA was established on September 29, 2010 to among other things protect the public from unsafe, falsified and substandard medicines
Additionally, to assure the quality of health products including ensuing fair trade practices within the sector as well as promulgate regulations to fight illegal trade in medicines, including counterfeit and adulterated medicines and health products and conduct or facilitate necessary research and development, promote pharmaco- vigilance and timely disseminate medicines information.
