Oluwabankole Wellington, popularly known as Banky W is a Nigerian musician, turned politician, who began his political career on the 11th of November 2018.

He first announced his intention to run for the Lagos Eti-Osa Federal Constituency seat in Nigeria's House of Representatives, under the platform of the Modern Democratic Party, formed in 2017, led by Bukunyi Olateru-Olagbegi, a 27-year-old youth activist and entrepreneur.

Banky W contested for the seat in 2019 against Babajide Obanikoro, the first son of a former minister of state for defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, of the APC and Omotesho Bakare of the PDP but lost.

In April 2022 Banky W announced that he was going to contest for the seat in the upcoming 2023 election, this time, under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.

He said, "I will once again be answering the call to serve to represent Eti-Osa Federal Constituency of Lagos State in the House of Representatives on the platform of the People's Democratic Party (PDP).

"Some may not agree or understand my decision to run or my choice of the platform but I have learned that we must engage with Nigeria where it is not where we hope that it should be. We must no longer be content to shout from the sidelines, we must get into the system and fix it."

Bankole Wellington further pinned a video on his Twitter page where he was seen explaining his political aims and objectives, with the caption, "We must engage with Nigeria where it is, not where we prefer for it to be. In 2019, we planted the seed. In 2023, by the grace of God, and with your support, we will win the seat. The time for just talking is over. It's time to #TalkAndDo. I hope I can count on you. We move."
