Nigeria: 102 Unclaimed Corpses in Abuja Hospital

One hundred and two corpses have been left unclaimed at the mortuary unit of Kubwa General Hospital, Abuja.

In a publication yesterday, the hospital's management said the corpses were deposited by the police from various divisions in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) between 2019 and 2022.

The publication showed that 19 corpses were deposited in 2019, while 10 corpses were taken to the hospital's morgue in 2020. 2021 had the highest number with 59 corpses deposited, while between January and May, 2022, 14 corpses were deposited.

The publication reads in part: "This is to inform the general public that anyone who has any issue or relationship to the under-listed bodies should please come to Kubwa General Hospital, Abuja, within the next 21 days of this publication for identification and evacuation."

The management further said the corpses might be subjected to mass burial by the appropriate authority if unclaimed after the stated date.

City & Crime, however, observed that the names of the deceased were not provided in the publication.
