Ghana: Communication Minister Calls for Collaboration to Curb Cybercrime

The Minister for Communication and Digitalization, Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has charged the Cyber Security Agency (CSA) to build a resilient telecommunication system to detect cybercrime and safeguard the activities of consumers online.

That, she said, would help create an enabling environment for the effective use of Information Communication Technology (ICT).

The Minister gave this advice at the Consumer Forum on Telecommunications Services, in Kumasi.

Mrs Owusu-Ekuful noted that the protection of individuals against cybercrime would see the light of day when the CSA collaborates with its sister agencies as well as security agencies to put appropriate measures in place.

"The Cyber Security Agency together with Security Agencies, the National Information Technology Agency, Data Protection Commission and National Communication Authority (NCA) must work as a team to create a safe and enabling environment for effective use of ICTs that protects the privacy of individuals," she reiterated.

She also called for the inclusion of relevant stakeholders in the private sector in the cyber security processes.

"The joint cyber security commission to collaborate with all the relevant stakeholders including the private sector, the academia to implement policies, programmes that will ensure collective cyber security," she added.
