Ghana: Free SHS Policy Not Being Reviewed - Director General of GES

The Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Prof. Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa, has disclosed that the GES is not reviewing the Free Senior High School Policy (FSHSP) as speculated.

In a statement, he said the GES is a government agency and did not formulate or initiate review policies, adding that any decision to review the policy would emanate from the government.

According to him, it was contrary to the widespread reports in the media that the GES was reviewing the Free Senior High School Policy to determine how much parents would pay.

He added that the GES as an agency implements government policies and programmes in pre-tertiary education and did not review policies made by the government.

Prof. Opoku-Amankwa noted that the president has assured the general public that the IMF programme would not affect the Free Senior High School Policy.

"His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo in his recent speech at UHAS, assured all students, potential students, parents and the entire country that the Free SHS will not be affected by the IMF programme," he emphasized.

He said the GES was committed to ensuring that the vision of the government to provide accessible, equitable and quality Free SHS education was fully implemented.
