Ghana: Tamale Central MP Cuts Sod for Construction of Astroturf At Changli

Tamale — The Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale Central Constituency, Mr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, on Friday cut sod for construction of an Astroturf pitch in Changli, a surburb of Tamale in the Northern Region.

The pitch which is the initiative of the MP with funding support from Ghana Gas Company is estimated at a cost of GH¢ 2 million.

The project would be completed within six months and would be executed by Blaze Investment Co Ltd, a Ghanaian construction company.

The pitch comes with a fence and generator to provide light in the field whenever there is light out.

Cutting the sod to commence work at the site, the MP said sports played a key role in the socio-economic development of every country.

He said the construction of the AstroTurf would enhance and improve the development of young football talents in the constituency.

The MP said the construction of the pitch formed part of his efforts to expand infrastructure development of sports in his constituency.

He added that the completion of the pitch would enhance the beauty of sporting activities in the area and the constituency as a whole.

Mr Murtala stressed that the development of youth in the constituency was dear to his heart, adding that it would enhance their qualities and skills in football in the area.

He said the pitch would not only be meant for sporting activities but would also support the people to undertake other social activities in the constituency.

"Schools around the area in the constituency can now boast of a beautiful pitch when is completed," he said.

He also advised the youth in the area to be discipline wherever they found themselves.

The MP told them that discipline could lead them to any place in their endeavours in the world.

He added that football was now a money-making venture and encouraged the youth to be serious in playing football

The manager of Ghana Gas, Mr Coomgbole Nuah Anyimah, said when completed the youth of the constituency would have a very good pitch to play football and urged the contractor to finish it on time for the youth to use the facility.

A resident, Alhaji Hussein Osman, on behalf of the people expressed their gratitude to the MP for the work that he had been doing for them in the constituency.

He said the project would go a long way to produce more football talents in the area.

Alhaji Osman said the construction of the sports pitch would help enhance and unleash the God-given talent of some of the youth in the constituency.
