The Reporters Association of Liberia (RAL) has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help its ailing members. RAL is the biggest subset of the Press Union of Liberia (PUL).
The institution launched the initiative Thursday, August 18, 2022 at its office in Monrovia.
At a news conference, the President of RAL, Cecelia G. Clarke said they have launched the initiative to seek support for our colleagues who are on their sick beds.
According to Clarke, they are working on the GoFundMe link adding, "for now, these our bank accounts are 002LRD40423320307 (LD) and 002USD40423320308. You may pay using these accounts. Also you may pay using mobile money account 0886712256 (Alfred Kollie RAL ASG)
She rallied members of the institution to pay a minimum of US$2 or its equivalent in Liberian dollars.
"We are also calling on our bosses and other colleagues in the diaspora to please make payment of US$50 each to this fight", Madam Clarke said.
The launching of the said initiative came about when the family of Mr. Mulbah Kessellie, an employee of the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS) made an SOS call for help to pay his bills of Kessellie at the John F. Kennedy Hospital.
Mulbah Kessellie or "Simple English man" of LBS is facing serious health complications at the John F. Kennedy Hospital according to the family, and what they had to underwrite the medical bills of their relative has been depleted, something they said, pushed them to send out an SOS call to people of goodwill to help him get back on his feet.

"Distinguished colleagues of the press, the SOS call by our colleague and others in the past shows we are underpaid as reporters in Liberia", she added.
She informed the gathering that the initiative is not intended only for Mr. Kessellie, but for members of the RAL who are faced with sicknesses of different kinds and are on their sick beds.
"As an institution, (RAL) we do not have money to underwrite the bills of our colleague and his upkeep in that government hospital (JFK)", she added.
The leadership of the Reporters Association of Liberia after the official launching paid a visit to Mr. Kessellie at the JFK and promised to also visit other reporters who are also sick.
At the same time, the former President of the Liberian Broadcasting System Workers Union, Titus Tokpah who is also the Executive Director of MediaAid Foundation made a promise of US$50 to be collected in cash today August 19.
