The Minister-designate for the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hajia Lariba Zuweira Abudu, has urged Ghanaians to speak up against human trafficking.

Hajia Zuweira Abudu, who was speaking at a three-day capacity-building workshop for some sixty security officials on counter-trafficking and irregular migration, said human trafficking has security implications.

The workshop, she said, was to help the security agencies gain a better understanding of the complex issues of human trafficking and irregular migration to improve the detection, investigations and prosecution of suspected human traffickers and smugglers.

She said that the Ministry was mandated to support security agencies to attain specialised training and build capacities to ensure that human trafficking law is fully implemented.

Hajia Zuweira Abudu commended the law enforcement agencies for the recent interceptions made at the various border points and the rescue and successful reintegration of victims of human trafficking back to their communities in Nigeria.

On his part, the project manager for Expertise France, Mr Serge Akpalou, pledged the European Union and Expertise France's commitment to the Government of Ghana in fighting human trafficking in all shapes and forms in the country.

He called on stakeholders to help fight human trafficking because it remains a canker in societies.
