Nigeria: My Appointment As Tinubu Campaign Youth Coordinator Surprising - Yahaya Bello

19 September 2022

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has said that his appointment as the national coordinator of Nigerian youths for the presidential campaign of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2023 elections is a surprise to him.

Yhaya Bello disclosed this during an interview on Channels TV's Politics Today.

He said, "My appointment and pronouncement as the national coordinator of Nigerian youths for the presidential campaign of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and (Senator Kashim) Shettima for the next 2023 (election) is a welcome idea. I appreciate and accept that responsibility. It's one appointment that is welcomed and appreciated across the whole country by Nigerian youths, women and people living with disabilities.

"It's more or less like a surprise to me because after the presidential primaries, we have two or three encounters with our leader and our presidential candidate and we talk generally about the party, the country and the way forward for our party especially in the general elections."

Bello added that he was appointed to mobilize young people for Tinubu's candidacy because of his touch with the Nigerian youth.

He said, "As I enumerated earlier he has seen my performances and he knows that I am a party man to the core. I had said it several times that APC is my first political party and it will be my last political party. There is no reason why I keep jumping gun.

"Learning from our leader Bola Ahmed Tinubu, our presidential candidate, his excellency who has been very consistent, he has been one politician that has been very sincere, he never changed political party, except when ACN was merging with other political parties forming this very treasure of our called APC.

"Looking at me, he knows I have that integrity and pedigree and connection with Nigerian youths across board, those that are political and those that are apolitical. He knows that I treat him very well and I will spearhead those who will galvanize, mobilize and coordinate Nigerian youths irrespective of background for the victory of our next general elections."

The governor added that he is a bridge between the young and the old in the country, saying he had performed well and touched the lives of the citizens of Kogi State, and brought on board youths and women revolutionalising the state.
