Nigeria: 'Buhari's Govt Looking Away From Real Oil Thieves'

26 September 2022

Abuja — As revenue generation from oil sector dwindles, a nonprofit organization, One Love Foundation, OLF, has rejected military's denial in oil theft allegations, stressing that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government is looking away from real oil thieves .

Speaking with Vanguard, the President and Founder, OLF, Chief Patrick Eholor, said the military cannot exonerate itself from the allegations leveled against it based on alleged evidences of their involvement, which some of its officers and men are neck deep in the illegal bunkering business over the years.

Eholor who expressed disappointment over denial of the allegations by the military said instead it needs to deal with those allegedly involved in the illicit business.

He said: "Beyond mere criminality, we are looking at economic sabotage on a gargantuan scale. Instead of nation-building, we're seeing national deconstruction.

"Until the Buhari regime is gone, we may never know the full extent of the looting, sabotage and destruction of Nigeria's oil sector.

"What is known is that possibly for the first time, the NNPC was unable to remit funds to the government and dollars are so scarce that the exchange rate peaked at N700+ to $1 under Buhari as Minister of Petroleum.

"The denial is inconsequential because our leaders have failed us.

"The military can deny because they know the president won't do anything to them even if they were caught red-handed.

"We have heard stories where the military including senior officers were accused of oil bunkering.

"The reality is that if they destroy Nigeria today, their children would be here tomorrow to be part of the mess.

"Nigerians should learn to be patriotic including security operatives."

He (Eholor) also asserted that reports have it that Nigeria is losing 95 per cent of oil output to criminals at oil hub, Bonny.

"The town after which its premium oil grade Bonny Light is named and a key export point for the country.

"The country can only secure 3,000 barrels out of 239,000 barrels injected into the pipeline from Bonny Terminal.

"It is not farfetched to conclude after wasting billions in search of oil in the north, certain vested interests have fixated on looting the nation dry", he stated.
