The Obuasi Municipal Assembly has showcased its major achievements since 2017 at a town hall meeting.
It forms part of measures by the assembly to strengthen probity, social accountability, transparency, deepen decentralisation and local governance.
Besides, the meeting gave residents and other stakeholders in Obuasi opportunity to learn about developmental projects and programmes being implemented by the assembly and share their grievances for redress.
The Assembly has constructed major drains this year through funds from Ghana Secondary Cities Support programme and has become proactive by committing more resources to build more drains where there is none to prevent flooding.
The Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) has put measures in place to prevent communal violence, which has been a dent on the image of Obuasi and instructed pub operators to install CCTV cameras to capture minors who visit pubs in the municipality.
In furtherance of this, security personnel in the municipality are not resting on their oars in their bid to deal with crimes, especially inter-community violence and mob actions thus creating peaceful co-existence for the municipality to make tremendous investments in education, health and road infrastructure.
The assembly has taken cognisance of the economic situation of the country, hence resolved not to make any major adjustment in rates, fees and levies charged by the assembly.
Elijah Adansi-Bonah, Municipal Chief Executive for Obuasi, said due to population growth coupled with redevelopment of AngloGold Ashanti and establishment of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Obuasi campus, there had been excessive pressure on social amenities.

Kwaku Kwarteng, Member of Parliament (MP) for Obuasi West Constituency in the Ashanti Region, revealed that the decision to establish a Technical University with specialisation in Technical and Vocational Education and Training in Obuasi was still on course and the contract had already been presented to Parliament, awaiting another hurdle before the processes could commence.
He urged the people of Obuasi to rally behind the government to ensure projects that had been earmarked to be implemented in Obuasi, see the light of day which included drain works at Shaft FM, Mensakrom, Nyameso, construction of inner city roads and Obuasi to Anwiankwanta road by the government.p
