Liberia: 'No Fire Incident in Vault' - Central Bank Clarifies

Monrovia — The Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) has clarified a media report indicating a fire incident in the vault of the Bank.

According to the Bank, the actuality is that an electrical shock occurred in one of the air conditioners located in the vault on September 21, 2022, but there was neither damage to the vault, nor the banknotes or harm to any staff of the Bank due to the existing enhanced security.

The CBL assured the public of steps the Bank has taken to prevent the recurrence of the recent incident.

The Bank's clarification comes amid reports on social media that the Bank's delay in releasing the newly printed banknotes and minted coins was because they were burned by the fire incident.
