Nigeria: 18 Governors, Others Behind Obi's 2023 Presidency, Ohanaeze Claims

6 October 2022

Eighteen out of the 36 governors are in support of the presidential candidate of Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has claimed.

The secretary-general of the group, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, who made the claim in a statement, however, refused to give the names of the governors.

The group also claimed that many past leaders including former presidents were backing Obi to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2023 elections.

Isiguzoro, who said Obi's movement's rallies are not sponsored by any politician but by youths, noted that the governors cut across different political platforms, religions and tribes.

"As we speak, about 18 governors from the North and the South, cutting across party lines, are behind the scenes putting up structures for Obi to win the 2023 election.

"In addition, some former presidents and elder statesmen are also in support of Obi's candidature. Why, because they are convinced that Obi has something different from all the other candidates and are determined to make a political change through the ballot box with a third force presidency," the group claimed.
