Liberia: SONIT Distances Itself From Cocaine Saga - Says It's Been Out of Business in Liberia for the Past Two Years

Monrovia — SONIT Liberia Inc. The frozen food company in Topoe Village in whose facility the huge consignment of cocaine were confiscated has issued disclaimer over their involvement in transportation of the huge consignment to Liberia.

In a statement issued by 'SONIT Liberia INC.' CEO Mr. Hassan Saadé, the place where the arrest was made, is a French frozen food company, that has since been business challenged causing them rent their facility to TRH Trading Corporation.

The Company (SONIT Liberia Inc.) further stated in their statement that it ceased its operations in Liberia two years ago and no longer carries out any business activity in Liberia.

"This is to inform you that SONIT Liberia Inc. has ceased its operations for the past two years and no longer carry out any business activity in Monrovia/Liberia, Consequently, our offices in Monrovia have been closed since 2021 and our cold stores located in Monrovia have been rented out from the 1st day of October 2021 to TRH TRADING CORPORATION," the released stated.

Speaking further, Hassan Saadé CEO of SONIT Liberia, said he is disappointed that the integrity of his business is being mentioned in the saga and expressed hopes that the statement issued will bring to an end speculation about their involvement.

"We sincerely hope that this statement will put to rest the motivated, malicious and false propaganda being run against SONIA Liberia," Saadé said.

In an the rental agreement between SONIA Liberia, infrastructure and equipment located in the Topoe Village community, and TRH Corporation includes; a landscape covering an area of 5.5 Acre with fence and electric cables for electricity, a Hanger Containing three (3) cold room that can store up to 2,700 tons of frozen food, a Cold equipment, Compressors and installations which require the operation of cold rooms, two generator sets with cowling, with making 550KVA and another second 33 KVA with its fuel storage tank, including a Building serving as an apartment and administrative office fully furnished and equipped in a document seem by this Paper.

The agreement also showed that an amount of US$ $22,500.00, payable in quarter advance, was agreed as rental fees.

DEA Tipoff

The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency and the National Security Agency over the weekend received a tip-off from the US Embassy in Monrovia regarding a reported US$100 million worth of cocaine placed in a container bound for Monrovia.

Following the tip-off, the impounding of the drug and subsequent arrest of a major suspect was done by the LDEA

At about 1:00 PM, officers of the Drug Enforcement Agency stormed the SONIT Liberia Inc. compound and seized from there a huge quantity of raw cocaine concealed among frozen goods owned by SONIT Inc.
