Liberia: Govt Warns Against Misinformation

It has come to the attention of the Ministry of Information that some nefarious people are currently engaged in sharing an inciting jingle with various media houses intended to stoke violence.

We wish to remind news outlets that there are clear laws against the broadcast and dissemination of false news and engaging in incitement. The penalties range from the revocation of permits to being held accountable in a court of law.

After consultation with the PUL, a team from the Ministry of Information will be out today meeting heads of media institutions to emphasize these laid-down stipulations.
