10 October 2022

The Acting Commissioner of the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau (AIB), Mr Akwasi Agyeibi Prempeh has led a five-member team to pay a working visit to the Kumasi and the Sunyani airports.

As part of the visit, the team collected data on incidents, and serious incidents and also educated the staff on preventive measures at the airports.

The purpose of the visit was also to investigate aircraft accidents and incidents per the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPS).

The Managing Director of Kumasi Airport, Mr Kwadwo Abrefa Sarkodie, said the main challenges the airport face are encroachment of lands and TV and Radio interference in communication gadgets.

He said the siting of an abature closer to the Kumasi Airport is also a major challenge since birds such as vultures hover around the abature and are likely cause accidents.
