South Africa: UCT Part of Groundbreaking Research With Potential to Impact the Prevention, Cure and Transmission of Malaria

Dr Lauren Arendse and Prof Kelly Chibale, researchers from the University of Cape Town (UCT) are part of a breakthrough finding that shows that a cancer drug, currently in clinical trials, can potentially protect from, cure, and prevent the transmission of malaria.

The groundbreaking research is in collaboration with several local and international institutions from the United States, Germany and Spain. It offers new hope against a disease that kills over half a million people annually.
