Nigeria: Central Bank Redesigns 200, 500, 1000 Naira Notes

26 October 2022

The bank says the notes were redesigned following a request from the federal government.

The Central Bank of Nigeria said it has redesigned the N200, N500, and N1000 notes and will by December 2022 start circulating the new notes.

The CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele, announced this at a press briefing on Wednesday. He said the notes were redesigned following a request from the federal government.

The last time the bank redesigned the naira was in 2014 when it changed the design of the 100 naira note to commemorate 100 years since Nigeria was created.
