The Agape Love Initiative (ALI), a non-governmental organisation (NGO), was over the weekend launched in Accra with the objective of supporting the needy and elderly in society.

With focus on Teshie and its environs as the starting point, the NGO would provide healthcare and other basic support to the needy.

Speaking at the launch, the President of Agape Love Initiative, Mr Bright Asamoah, said the group was formed by old students of Sunrise Preparatory School at Teshie, as part of efforts to help members of the com-munity where the school was situated.

He said, with the current economic hard-ships faced by Ghanaians, a little support, especially to the elderly persons who could not move around would go a long way to alleviate their sufferings.

"COVID-19 and other global events had impacted greatly on the livelihoods of many across the globe and Ghana is no exception. In view of that, we intend to come together and see how best we could support to allevi-ate the pressure on the needy in society," he stated.

He called on corporate entities, foreign-ers, Ghanaians home and abroad and the public, to join hands with ALI to positively contribute to the wellbeing of the vulnerable in society.

"The initiative would also go a long way to support the achievement of one of the Sustainable Development Goals, that is, a prosperous and peaceful planet where no one is left behind," he added.

The chairperson for the launch, Mr Edward Anum, lauded the initiators of ALI for extending a helping hand to society and asked for unity and divine protection as they worked towards achieving their objectives.
