The African Development Bank and the African Union Commission will release the 2022 Africa Visa Openness Index report on Sunday, December 11. The launch will take place on the sidelines of the 2022 African Economic Conference (AEC), jointly hosted by the African Development Bank, the Economic Commission for Africa, and the United Nations Development Program, from 9 to 11 December.
Now in its 7th edition, the Africa Visa Openness Index report tracks the extent to which African countries are open to visitors from other African states. It uses three main criteria: where entry to citizens from other African countries is visa-free, where a visa on arrival can be obtained, and where travelers are required to obtain a visa ahead of travel.
High scores and rankings are indicative of liberal visa policies. Countries with low scores generally require many travelers to apply for a visa in their home country ahead of travel.
