Nigeria: Another Priest Kidnapped in Nigeria.

Abuja — Another priest kidnapped in Nigeria. Fr Sylvester Okechukwu, of the diocese of Kafanchan, in the state of Kaduna, in the central north of the country, was kidnapped yesterday, December 20. The news was made public in a statement from the diocese sent to Fides.

Fr Sylvester Okechukwu, who serves at St. Anthony's parish, Fadan Kano, was abducted around 11.45 in the evening from the parish rectory in Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

In asking for prayers for the prompt release of the priest, the diocese invites everyone "not to take justice into their own hands. We will use all legal means to ensure his safe and speedy release".

We recall that only yesterday (see Fides, 20/12/2002) we gave news of the kidnapping of Fr Christopher Ogide, associate pastor of the Maria Assumpta parish of Umuopara, diocese of Umuahia in the state of Abia, in southern Nigeria.
