Nigeria: Perish Planned Coronation of Emir of Aba, Abia Govt Warns Organisers

9 February 2023

Abia State government has raised the alarm over the proposed coronation of one Sarki Shehu Bello II as the Emir of Aba Emirate Council without recourse to the government.

This was contained in statement by the secretary to the state government, Barrister Chris Ezem, which was sighted by newsmen in Umuahia, the state capital, yesterday.

"Government wishes to warn all involved in this unauthorised and illegal coronation to stop forthwith or be prepared to face the full weight of the law," the statement said.

"Government hereby directs the immediate cancellation of the proposed illegal coronation as there is nothing like Aba Emirate Council in the state,"Ezem warned.

The statement further said the government has appealed to the people of the state especially those residents in the town to be law-abiding.

It added that the law enforcement agents have been directed to ensure that such event which it said is capable of breaching the existing peace in the state is stopped.

Reacting to the development in the capital, the chief imam of the state, Shiek Ali Ukiwe told LEADERSHIP that he is not aware of it.
