Gambia: Commission of Inquiry Into the Conduct of Local Government Councils

As the NPP receives permit to demonstrate in relation to corruption in local government councils there is a body established by the executive to precisely investigate and report on matters relating to the councils. The executive however should bear in mind to work out all the logistics for the full functioning of a commission of inquiry. Demonstrations are done on the basis of rights granted by the Constitution. An inquiry is empowered to reveal facts that could be relied on to know the true state of affairs of regional government structures. It is therefore important to give the institutions all the resources they need to function.

There are no signs as yet that funds have been allocated to the commission to commence work. Foroyaa will continue to monitor the demonstration and the nomination process.
