Liberia: NLA Extends Financial Aid Project for Disabled Students At Bong County Community College in Bong County

Monrovia — The Management of the National Lottery Authority - Liberia (NLA) has extended its Financial Aid Project (FAP) to Physically Challenged Students enrolled at the Bong County Community College.

About nine Physically Challenged Students who are currently enrolled at the Bong County Community College are the latest to benefit from the program.

In January 2023, NLA's Management signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the University of Liberia (UL) and other Public Universities/Colleges to pay the Registration Fees and provide monthly transportation compensations of US$25 for each Physically Challenged Student aspiring for higher and quality education at various public Universities and Colleges in Liberia.

Currently, the University of Liberia and all Public Universities/Colleges across Liberia are tuition freed, but Students are required to pay Registration Fees as prescribed by various Public Universities and Colleges in Liberia.

In January this year, about 22 Physically Challenged Students who are attending the State-run-University of Liberia (UL) and in February,18 from the Bomi Community College in Tubmanburg City benefited from the National Lottery Authority (NLA) Financial Aid Program.

Speaking at a ceremony marking the official launch of NLA Financial Aid Program at the Bong County Community College in Gbarnga on Friday, NLA's Assistant Director of Social Welfare, Madam Helena Borbor Dour said those living with Physical Challenges face serious challenges especially in their endeavor to attain higher and quality education nothing, the Project goal is to minimize such constraints by providing them the necessary financial aid in order to continue their academic journey.

Madam Borbor Dour furthered that the project is part of NLA's Corporate Social Responsibilities toward the Disabled Community in accordance with section 6.1.2 of the 2014 ACT that created the National Lottery Authority (NLA); a mandate, she expressed the Authority's determination and commitment to fully executing to the benefit of less fortunate individuals in Liberia.

Thanking NLA's Director General, Hon. Reginald Kpan Nagbe and Board of Directors for initiating the project, Madam Dour encouraged beneficiaries to pay more attention to their respective field of studies to ensure positive outcomes that would motivate NLA's Management to continue the program.

Making remarks, Bong County Community College President, Dr. Roland C. Massaquoi and Head of the Bong County Community College Disabled Students body, Benedict Kollie disclosed that it is historical for Persons Living with Disabilities to receive such academic support since the existence of the College.

Dr. Massaquoi and Student Kollie lauded the Management of the National Lottery Authority for the Financial Aid partnership and prayed for its continuity.
