Ghana: Aowin Chiefs, Elders Call for Police Probe Into Assassination Attempts Against Paramount Chief

The chiefs and elders of the Aowin Traditional Area of the Western North Region are calling on the government to take immediate action on the assassination attempts and threats of insecurity against the Aowin Paramount Chief, Beyeeman Tano Kwaw Benbuin III.

They noted that there have been countless and constant plots and schemes which include the use of offensive weapons against the paramount chief which have been reported to the police but no requisite actions have been taken on the criminal conduct.

The chiefs and elders stated this last Wednesday at a news conference at Enchi, here.

The Paramount Chief for Aowin Traditional Area, Beyeeman Tano Kwaw Benbuin III was installed on March 23, 2019, but has still not been gazetted due to some chieftaincy disputes surrounding his instalment.

According to the chiefs at least eight assassination attempts had been made against the paramount chief without any proper intervention by the police in the area.

They further alleged that a group of thugs had been hired to team up with supporters of one Ellis Famieh Duncan who had also been enstooled as Paramount Chief of the Aowin Traditional Area.

Following a series of clashes with one of them leading to the killing of four persons on November 6, 2022, the Tuffohene of the Aowin Traditional Area, Nana Panin II, in a remark to the media questioned the inaction of the police and demanded a thorough investigation into the matter.
